Laser Levels for TV Wall Mounting: Do You Need One?

A laser can make TV mounting easier, particularly when you need to establish a centre line or align several items on the wall. It is not essential for every installation.

Start with the wall and fixing method

The important first questions are the wall construction, suitable fixings, bracket requirements and the TV manufacturer's instructions. A level line does not make an unsuitable fixing safe.

Use the laser for layout

A horizontal line can help position the bracket level; a vertical line can help establish the screen centre relative to furniture, a chimney breast or the room.

Cross-line is enough for most jobs

A compact cross-line laser such as the G2D provides the references normally needed for a single TV. A G4D is more relevant when the job forms part of a larger media-wall or room-layout project.

Check the bracket directly

Before final tightening, a physical spirit or digital level can check the actual bracket itself. The laser is a projected reference; the level is touching the component you are fixing.

The bottom line

For one TV, you may not need a laser at all. If you want a clear centre and level reference across a larger wall, a simple cross-line model is usually enough.
